THE WEST BENGAL APPROPRIATION 
ACT, 2001. 
[Passed by the West Bengal Legislature.] 
[Assent of the Governor was first published in the Calcutta Gazette, 
Extraordinary, of the 7th March, 20011 
An Act to authorise payment and appropriation of certain sums front 
and out of the Consolidated Fund of West Bengal for the services and 
purposes of the year ending on the thirty-first day of March, 2001. 
WHEREAS it is expedient to authorise payment and appropriation of 
certain sums from and out of the Consolidated Fund of West Bengal for 
the services and purposes of the year ending on the thirty-first day of 
March, 2001; 
It is hereby enacted in the Fifty-second Year of the Republic of India, 
by the Legislature of West Bengal, as follows:- 
1. This Act may be called the West Bengal Appropriation Act, 2001. Short title. 
2. From and out of the Consolidated Fund of West Bengal there may 
be paid and applied sums not exceeding those specified in column 3 of the 
Schedule amounting in the aggregate to the sum of rupees four thousand 
one hundred seven crore fifty lakh fifty-nine thousand towards defraying 
the several charges which will come in course of payment during the year 
ending on the thirty-first day of March, 2001, in respect of the services and 
purposes specified in column 2 of the Schedule. 
3. The sums authorised to be paid and applied from and out of the 
Consolidated Fund of West Bengal by this Act shall be appropriated 
for the services and purposes expressed in the Schedule in relation to the 
year ending on the thirty-first day of March, 2001.

Statement of Objects and Reasons on 
the West Bengal Appropriation Bill, 2001 
(Bill No. 18 of 2001). 
STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS. 
The object of the Bill is to provide for the appropriation out of the 
Consolidated Fund of West Bengal of the moneys required for the year 
2000-2001 to meet— 
(a) the supplementary or additional grants made by the Assembly, 
and 
(b) the supplementary or additional expenditure charged on the 
Consolidated Fund of West Bengal, but not exceeding, in any 
case, the amount shown in the Statement previously laid 
before the House in pursuance of article 205(1) of the 
Consititution of India. 
2. Under the Constitution of India no money can be withdrawn from 
the Consolidated Fund of West Bengal except in accordance with an 
appropriation made by law.
