Preamble

AN
ACT
to establish a Private University under the name and style “The Assam 
Down Town University” under section 6 of the Assam Private 
Universities Act, 2007
Whereas it is expedient to establish a Private University under the name 
and style “The Assam Down Town University” under section 6 of the 
Assam Private Universities Act, 2007 and for matters connected 
therewith or incidental thereto
It is hereby enacted in the Sixty-first Year of the Republic of India as 
follows
1. (1) This Act may be called the Assam Down Town University
Act, 2010.
(2) It extends to the whole of Assam.
(3) It shall come into force at once.
2. (1) For furthering the advancement of learning and prosecution
of higher education and research, there shall be established a 
Private University under the name and style “The Assam 
Down Town University” in the State of Assam.
(2) The details regarding name, location, jurisdiction and 
infrastructure of the said University are mentioned in the 
Schedule appended to this Act.

section 6 of the Assam Private Universities Act, 2007
1. Name of the University: The Assam Down Town University
(Sponsored by the Down Town 
Charity Trust, Dispur, Guwahati -  6)
2. Location of the University :  Located at Panikhaiti in the District of
Kamrup (Metro) with its headquarter 
at Dispur, Guwahati -  6.
3. Jurisdiction : Extending over the State of Assam.

Infrastructure : (i) Land : 90B-0K-3L covered by K.P.
Patta No.8 at village No.2 
Panikhaiti, Beltola Mouza
(ii) Built-up-area : 10,000 sq.Mtrs.
(iii) Endowment Fund : Rupees two Crore.
(iv) Library : Area 8600 sq. Ft. 100 seater,
reading room, seminar-cum- 
library room -10
(v) Laboratories :
(1) Computer laboratory with internet facility.
(2) Histology Lab : 90 seater equipped with 
microscopes and slides.
(3) Amphibian Lab. : 90 seater with students 
chymograph, poles Computer.
(4) Human Physiology Lab. : 30 seater with 
necessary apparatus
(5) Bio-chemistry Lab : 30 seater with 
microscope, homogenizer, PH ’  meter etc.
(6) Hematology Lab. : 90 seater with
microscopes, Heamoglobino meter etc., 10 
additional Research laboratories.
(vi) Equipments :  Rs.35,28,287/- spent to purchase 
equipments.
(vii) Teaching Area : Lecture Halls = 3 (550 seater), 
Classrooms = 12 (60 seater), Dissection Hall=l 
(90 seater).
(viii) Books and Journals : Worth Rs. 10.00 lakh.
(ix) Museums : (1) Anatomy museum (2) Community 
medicine museum, Charts Models (3) Radiology 
Museum.
(x) Hostels : (a) 54 rooms hostel for girl/ Resident 
doctors, (b) 20 room boys hostel, (c) 3 dormitories 
for students.
(xi) Staff accommodation :  Staff qtr = 10 Nos., 
Doctor/ Faculty = 4 Nos. Qtr.
