THE BENGAL ORPHANAGES AND WIDOWS' HOMES
(REPEALING) ACT, 2023.
[Passed by the West Bengal Legislature.]
[Assent of the Governor was first published in the Kolkata Gazette,
Extraordinary, of the 14th December, 2023.1
An Act to repeal the Bengal Orphanages and Widows' Homes Act, 1944.
WHEREAS it is expedient to repeal the Bengal Orphanages and Widows' Homes
Act, 1944;
It is hereby enacted in the Seventy-fourth Year of the Republic of India, by the
Legislature of West Bengal, as follows:-
1. (1) This Act may be called the Bengal Orphanages and Widows' Homes
(Repealing) Act, 2023.

Repeal of Ben.
Act III of 1944.
Saving.
(2) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by
notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
2. The Bengal Orphanages and Widows' Homes Act, 1944 is hereby repealed.
3. Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the Bengal
Orphanages and Widows' Homes Act, 1944, prior to repeal, shall be deemed to have
been validly done or taken.
