WHEREAS it is necessary to provide for the cessation of application of 
the West Bengal Universities (Control of Expenditure) Act, 1976 to each 
of the Universities subject to that Act at the appropriate stage; 
It is hereby enacted in the Thirtieth Year of the Republic of India, by 
the Legislature of West Bengal, as follows:- 
1. (1) This Act may be called the West Bengal Universities (Control Short title, 
of Expenditure) (Cessation of Application) Act, 1979. 	 application 
and 
commence- 
(2) It shall apply to the Universities constituted or established, as the ment. 
case may be, under sub-section (1) of section 3 of— 
(i) the Calcutta University Act, 1966; 
(ii) the Burdwan University Act, 1959; 
(iii) the North Bengal University Act, 1961; 
(iv) the Jadavpur University Act, 1955; 
(v) the Kalyani University Act, 1960; 
(vi) the Rabindra Bharati Act, 1961.

(Sections 2, 3.) 
(3) It shall come into force in relation to such University and on such 
date as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, 
declare.

2. Upon the declaration of the date in relation to a University under 
sub-section (3) of section 1, the provisions of the West Bengal Universities 
(Control of Expenditure) Act, 1976 shall cease to apply to that University. 
3. A declaration under sub-section (3) of section 1 in relation to a 
University shall not affect anything done or any action taken under the 
West Bengal Universities (Control of Expenditure) Act, 1976, prior to 
such declaration.
