THE UNITED PROVINCES EXPIRING LAWS CONTINUANCE ACT, 
1948 
[U.P. Act no. XIII of 1948] 
 
 
[Passed the U . P. Legislative Assembly on March 6, 1948  and by the U. P.  
Legislative Council on March 20, 1948.  
 
Received the assent of the Governor General on March 30 , 1948, under section 
76 of the Government of India Act, 1935, as adapted by the India (Provis ional 
Constitution) Order, 1947, and was published in the United Provinces Gazette 
Extraordinary dated April 1, 1948.] 
AN 
 
ACT 
 
to continue certain expiring laws promulgated by His Excellency the Governor of 
the United Provinces by virtue of section 93 of the Government of India Act, 1935.  
 
Whereas the Acts mentioned in the schedule  (hereinafter called Principal Act ) 
were promulgated by his Excellency the  Governor of the United Provinces by virtue of 
the Procl amation, under section 93 of the Government of  India Act, 1935  dated 
November 3, 1939, as amended from time to time;  
 
And whereas the Principal Acts are, i n so far as they are in force and are 
temporary in their duration, limited to expire on March 31, 1948.  
 
And whereas it is expedient to provide for the continuance, as in this Act 
mentioned, of the Principal Acts and of the enactments amending and affecting the same;  
 
It is hereby enacted as follows :--  
 
Short title and 
commencement 
1. This Act may be called the United Provinces Expiring Laws Continuance 
Act, 1948. 
 
 Continuance in 
force of Acts 
mentioned in the 
Schedule  
2. (1)  The Principal Acts mentioned in column 1 of the Schedule shall subject to 
the modification and to the extent specified in column 2, be permanent 
Acts.  
(2)   Any unrepealed enactments which are temporary in their duration shall, in 
so far as they amend or affect the principal Act continued by the 
foregoing provision of this Act, b e continued in like manner whether they 
are mentioned in the schedule or not.
