THE RAJASTHAN CONTINGENCY FUND ACT, 1956. 
(Act No. 40 of 1956) 
[Received the assent of the Governor on the 14th day of December, 1956] 
An Act to provide for the estab lishment and maintenance of a Co ntingency Fund 
for the State of Rajasthan. 
Whereas it is expedient to provide for the establishment and ma intenance of a 
Contingency Fund for the State of Rajasthan in pursuance of cla use (2) of Article 267 of 
the Constitution of India. 
Be it enacted by the Rajasthan State Legislature in the Seventh  Year of the 
Republic of India as follows:- 
1. Short title.— This Act may be called the Rajasthan Contingency Fund Act, 1956. 
2. Interpretation.—(1) In this Act, unless the subject or context otherwise 
requires,— 
(a) ''appointed day'' means the fi rst day of November, 1956; and  
(b) "State" means the new State of Rajasthan as formed by section 10 of the States 
Reorganisation Act, 1956 (Central Act 37 of 1956.) 
(2) The provisions of the Rajasthan General Clauses Act, 1955 (Rajasthan Act 8 of 
1955) in force in the pre-reorganisation State of Rajasthan sha ll as far as may be, apply 
mutatis mutandis to this Act. 
3. Establishment of the State Contingency Fund, the custody thereof and withdrawals 
therefrom,— (1) With effect from the appointed day there shall be established for the State 
a Contingency Fund in the nature of an imprest entitled the Contingency Fund of the State 
of Rajasthan, into which shall be paid from and out of the Consolidated Fund of that State 
a sum of 1 [Five hundred crores of rupees] 
(2) The said Contingency Fund shall be held on behalf of the Govern or by the 
Secretary to the State Governmen t in the Finance Department and  no advance shall be 
made out of that fund except for the purposes of meeting unforeseen expenditure pending 
authorisation of such expenditure by the State Legislature unde r appropriations made by 
law.

4. Power to make rules — For the purposes of this Act the State Government 
may make rules regulating all matters connected with or ancillary to the custody of 
and the payment of moneys in to and withdrawals of moneys from the Contingency 
Fund of the State. 
5. Repeal and Saving.-— (1) The Rajasthan Contin gency Fund Ordinance, 
1956 (Rajasthan Ordinance 8 of 1956) is hereby repealed. 
(2) Such repeal shall not effect the rules and orders made unde r the 
Contingency Fund of Rajasthan Act, 1951 (Rajasthan Act III of 1951), in force in 
the pre-reorganisation State of Rajasthan and such rules and or ders as in  force 
immediately before, the appointed day shall, until rules are ma de under this Act, 
continue to be in force and be deemed to have been made under this Act.
