MEGHALAYA ACT 8 OF 1980 
 THE MEGHALAYA STATE LEGISLATURE (CONTINUANCE OF THE ENGLISH 
LANGUAGE) ACT, 1980  
(As passed by the Assembly) 
 [Received the consent of the Governor on 26th June, 1980]  
(Published in the Gazette of Meghalaya Extraordinary issue, dated 28th June, 1980)  
An 
 Act 
 to provide for continuance of English Language for the transaction of business in the 
Legislature of the State of Meghalaya.  
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Meghalaya in the Thirty-first year of the Republic of 
India as follows:-  
 
Short title, and 
commencement 
1. (1) This Act may be called the Meghalaya State Legislature 
(Continuance of the English Language) Act, 1980.  
 
(2) It shall come into force at once. 
 
Continuation of English 
language for the transaction 
of business in the 
Legislature of the State. 
2. Notwithstanding the expiration of the period of twenty -five 
years from the commencement of the Constitution, the 
English language shall continue to be used for the 
transaction of business in the Legislature of the State of 
Meghalaya.
