An Act further to amend the Maharashtra Official Languages Act, 1964.
WHEREAS, it is expedient further to amend the Maharashtra Official
Languages Act, 1964, for the purposes hereinafter appearing; it is hereby
enacted in the Sixty-sixth Year of the Republic of India as follows :—
1. This Act may be called the Maharashtra Official Languages
(Amendment) Act, 2015.
2. After section 1 of the Maharashtra Official Languages Act, 1964
(hereinafter referred to as “the principal Act”) the following shall be
inserted, namely :—
“1A. The official language of the State of Maharashtra shall be
Marathi.”.

in English of the Maharashtra Official Languages (Amendment) Act, 2015 (Mah. Act No. XXXVI
of 2015), is hereby published under the authority of the Governor.

3. In section 2 of the principal Act, for clause ( c), the following clause
shall be substituted, namely :—
“(c) “Marathi” means the Marathi language in Devnagari script
which is adopted in the State under Government Resolutions issued,
from time to time.”.
