Registrar of Copyrights and 1[Appellate Board] to possess certain powers of civil courts.—The Registrar of Copyrights and the 1[Appellate Board] shall have the powers of a civil court when trying a suit under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (5 of 1908), in respect of the following matters, namely, — (a) summoning and enforcing the attendance of any person and examining him on oath; (b) requiring the discovery and production of any document; (c) receiving evidence on affidavits; (d) issuing commissions for the examination of witnesses or documents; (e) requisitioning any public record or copy thereof from any court or office; (f) any other matter which may be prescribed. Explanation.—For the purpose of enforcing the attendance of witnesses, the local limits of the jurisdiction of the Registrar of Copyrights or the 1[Appellate Board], as the case may be, shall be the limits of the territory of India.Open in Lexace · Ask the AI about this section
